He was predeceased by: his wife Margaret J. "Peggy" Hiltz; his parents, Frank Hiltz and Helen Hiltz; his parents-in-law, Carl and Anna Smith; and his siblings-in-law, Mary Ann Simpson (late Jimmy), Fred Smith and Carl Smith (Betsy).

He is survived by: his children, Christina Miller (Steven) of Naperville and Stef Hiltz (Cathy) of Naperville; his grandchildren, Zac Miller, Abby Eggleston (Josh), Maggie Friede (Matt) and Ben Hiltz (Rebecca); his great grandchild Bentley Friede; his brothers, Donald Hiltz (late Shirley) and Rodney Hiltz (Barb) of Naperville; and his pet Charlotte.
