He was predeceased by: his parents, Harold Groves and Helen Groves; his brothers, Steven and Roderick; his brother-in-law Eric Anderson; and his sons-in-law, Michael Simpson (Jacqueline) and Scott Zwingli.
He is survived by: his wife Edna Carch; his daughters, Jacqueline Groves (David Morledge) and Lisa Groves; his son-in-law John Turcza; his daughters, Claire Kia and Susan Zwingli; his grandchildren, Brian Turcza (Valerie Weed), Daniel Turcza, Elizabeth Turcza (Chris Bailey), Scott Simpson (Cecelia Kress), Matthew Simpson (Emily Mannix Simpson), Samantha Zwingli (Luke Smalanskas) and Casey Thomas (Aaron Thomas); his great grandchildren, Autumn and Avery (Brian); his sister Susan Groves; and his sisters-in-law, Anne DeCecco Groves (Steven) and Judith Lathrop Groves (Roderick).
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the University of Wisconsin Foundation directed to the Physics Newton Fund, the Friends of the Boundary Waters Wilderness, or Doctors Without Borders.
