Florence Joann Ritter Obituary
We are sad to announce that on October 4, 2025, at the age of 84, Florence Joann Ritter of New Athens, Illinois, born in Cache, Illinois passed away. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
She was predeceased by: her parents, Chester DeWeese and Elsie DeWeese Houston (Rollins); her stepfather Roy Houston; and her siblings, Charles DeWeese, Lester DeWeese, Marion "Spud" DeWeese, James "Sam" DeWeese, Dortha Vaughn (late Frank), Mary "Judy" Coleson (late Harry) and Shirley Sams (late Jerry).
She is survived by: her husband Jerry Ritter of New Athens, IL; her children, Steven Ritter (Nancy) of New Athens and Lisa Phelps (Dennis Robertson) of Freeburg, IL; her son-in-law Randal Phelps of Baldwin, IL; her grandchildren, Amanda Burnett (Luke) of San Angelo, TX, Steven Ritter, II of New Athens, IL., Kaylyn Tooley (Mike) of Sparta, IL. and Alex Ritter (Stacy Wilke) of Belleville, IL; her great grandchildren, Serina Marie Ritter, Adilen Burnette, Harper Joelle Burnette, Maxleigh Grace Burnette, Brenna Bell Tooley and Hazel Dove Tooley; her sister Joyce Bigham of Olive Branch, IL.; and her sisters-in-law, Shirley DeWeese (Lester) of Granite City, IL. and Dorothy DeWeese (Charles) of Paducah, KY.. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins and friends.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, October 11th 2025 from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the United Methodist Church (201 S Clinton St, New Athens, IL 62264). A funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 11th 2025 at 1:00 PM at the same location.
Memorials may be made to the American Alzheimer's Association, Vitas Hospice or United Methodist Church of New Athens.
