Florence JoAnn Ritter Obituary

We are sad to announce that, on October 4, 2025, at the age of 84, Florence JoAnn Ritter of New Athens, Illinois, born in Cache, Illinois passed away. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.

She was predeceased by: her parents, Chester DeWeese and Elsie DeWeese Houston (Rollins); her stepfather Roy Houston; and her siblings, Charles DeWeese, Lester DeWeese, Marion "Spud" DeWeese, James "Sam" DeWeese, Dortha Vaughn (late Frank), Mary "Judy" Coleson (late Harry) and Shirley Sams (late Jerry).

She is survived by: her husband Jerry Ritter of New Athens, IL; her children, Steven Ritter (Nancy) of New Athens and Lisa Phelps (Dennis Robertson) of Freeburg, IL; her son-in-law Randal Phelps of Baldwin, IL; her grandchildren, Amanda Burnett (Luke) of San Angelo, TX, Steven Ritter, II of New Athens, IL., Kaylyn Tooley (Mike) of Sparta, IL. and Alex Ritter (Stacy Wilke) of Belleville, IL; her great grandchildren, Serina Marie Ritter, Adilen Burnett, Harper Joelle Burnett, Maxleigh Grace Burnett, Brenna Belle Tooley and Hazel Dove Tooley; her sister Joyce Bigham of Olive Branch, IL.; and her sisters-in-law, Shirley DeWeese (Lester) of Granite City, IL. and Dorothy DeWeese (Charles) of Paducah, KY.. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins and friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Alzheimer's Association, Vitas Hospice or New Athens Methodist Church.
