He was predeceased by: his parents, Paul Gurnitz and Rose Gurnitz (Kalert); his son Thomas McKenzie; and his brother-in-law Theodore DeCraene. He is survived by: his wife Mary Gurnitz (Eckels); his children, David Gurnitz Jr., Hoyett McKenzie (Kelly), Melissa Johannsen (Bill Collins) and Yolanda Ballantine (George); and his sister-in-law Connie DeCraene. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren.
Visitation was held on Wednesday, July 30th 2025 from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Kurtz Memorial Chapel (102 East Francis Road, New Lenox, IL 60451).
