Jeffrey leaves behind cherished memories for friends, family, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. Jeffrey’s life was marked by connections and experiences that touched those around him. Though he is no longer with us, the moments shared, the laughter, and the support he offered will continue to resonate. All who knew Jeffrey will carry forward his memory in their hearts.
He was loved and cherished by many people including: wife: Patsy; parents: Lowell and Uvanna Mathre (also referred to as Van); siblings: Greg Mathre (Gina) and Karla Maurer (Scott); in-laws: Bob and Doris Stevenson; brother-in-law: Cas Ries; children: Nels (Kristi), Kari (Eric Friestad), and Emma (Eric Smith); grandchildren: Owen, Henry, Harrison, and Penelope Mathre; Kjersten, Clay, Gwen, Brock, Sonja, and Bryce Friestad; and Eva, Evan, and Elsie Smith; and aunts, uncles, cousins, numerous other family members and friends.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, September 26th 2026 from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Newark Fire Department (101 E Main St, Staunton, IL 62088). A funeral service will be held on Sunday, September 27th 2026 at 2:00 PM at the West Lisbon Church (14381 W Joliet Rd, Newark, IL 60541). A graveside service will be held on Sunday, September 27th 2026 from 3:00 PM to 3:30 PM at the Helmar Lutheran Cemetery-Newark.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to Newark Fire Department or the Fern Dell Historic Association.
