He was predeceased by: his parents, Otto Strong and Esther Strong (Tillotson); and his siblings, Clayton Dean Strong, Richard Otto Strong, Warren Strong and Ruth Nebelsick.

He is survived by: his daughters, Denise Lynn Shankle (Jim) of Ottawa and Lisa Kay Strong (Chad Dickey) of Mendota; his grandchildren, Kaylyn Spriggs (Gabriel), Taryn Thyne (Cooper), James Luke Shankle, Jeffrey Shankle (Kaylee) and Keira Shankle; and his sister Miriam Strong of Clarkesville, GA.. He is also survived by three great-grandchildren.
