He was predeceased by: his parents, Otis Whightsel and Rose Mary "Rosie" Whightsel (Jenkins); his brother-in-law Danny Chapman; and his grandparents, Frederick "Fred", Villa E. Whightsel (Kirkham), William O. and Mabel Joy Jenkins (Oliver).
He is survived by: his sister Carol Ann Chapman of Cobden, Illinois; and his aunt Shirley Sanders of Flat Rock, Illinois. He is also survived by several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
