He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Carl Mitchell and Carrie Simms Mitchell; his wife Katrina Shockey; his children, Molly Thomas (Spencer) of Green Bay, WI, Noah Mitchell of Georgetown, TX and Caleb Mitchell (Janet) of Carlock, IL; his grandchildren, Elizabeth, Rea, William, Amos and Selah; and his siblings, Steve Mitchell (Linda) of LaPlata, MD and Diane Anderson (Dan) of Milford, IL..

Visitation was held on Friday, November 14th 2025 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Calvert & Metzler Memorial (1115 E Washington St, Bloomington, IL 61701). A funeral service was held on Saturday, November 15th 2025 at 11:00 AM at the Christ Church (1301 N Linden St, Normal, IL 61761).

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials be made to Tunnel To Towers Foundation.
