He was predeceased by: his parents, Louis L. Phipps and Joan E. Phipps (Marshall); his brother Mark; and his cousin Sandra Gilkes Branch. He is survived by: his wife Valerie Hughart-Phipps; his siblings, Gary Phipps and Lisa Heying; his nephew Joshua Phipps; his niece Rae Heying; his great-nephew Jaxon Phipps; and his pet Buffy.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the National Kidney Foundation and Ruby's Rescue and Retreat, organizations Shawn felt strongly about.
