He was loved and cherished by many people including : his parents, Dr. Donalee L. Tabern and Beatrice Whitacre Tabern; his brother Jerome Tabern (Kay); his daughter Susan McMahon (Jeffrey) of Oswego; his grandchildren, Ryan and Sean; his former life partner Rita Sierszen Tabern; and his wife Beverly Walker Tabern.

Thomas was a regular donor to many causes including the arts, animal shelters, plus social justice, environmental, homeless, and veterans' charity causes.
