He was predeceased by: his parents, Thomas M. Sweeney and Kathleen Sweeney; and his siblings, Carol Stevenson (late Jack), Francis Sweeney and Judy Neeley.
He is survived by: his wife Maureen; his children, Thomas Sweeney III (Wanda), Donald Sweeney (Karen), Vicky Lynn Ulrich and Linda Stevens; his grandchildren, Jeffrey Sweeney (Jessica), Kristy Rouskey (Christopher), Megan Boerner (Nick), Kaitlin Sweeney, Ashley, Nicole Ulrich and Mitchell Stevens (Jamie); his great grandchildren, Carter, Natalie, Lillian, Mallory, Collin, Hannah and Kyle; his great great grandchild Sienna; his sister Sherri Streit (Bernard); and his nieces and nephews, Retired Wabash, Norfolk Southern and Metra Locomotive Engineer.
Visitation was held on Saturday, September 19th 2026 at 9:00 AM at the Thompson Kuenster Funeral Home (5570 W 95th St, Oak Lawn, IL 60453). A prayer was held on Saturday, September 19th 2026 at 11:00 AM at the same location.
In lieu of flowers, contributions would be appreciated to Advocate Home Health Hospice.
