It is with deep sorrow that we announce the death of James Jay Michael Champelli of Oak Park, Illinois, born in Chicago, Illinois, who passed away on November 20, 2022, at the age of 80, leaving to mourn family and friends. He was loved and cherished by many people including : his parents, Ethel Champelli (O'Toole) and Joseph B. Champelli; his sister Mary Kathleen Keating (Kay); his wife Joyce Marie Williams; his children, Lisa Marie (Christopher), Joseph William (Christine), Jon Robert (Angelique) and Theresa Susanne (Michael); his grandchildren, Kira, Peter, Audrey, Lucy, Adeline, Alex, Zach and Ethan; and also, Mafalda, Ida and Pearl.

Jay raised his family in Oak Park and devoted countless hours to community service as Chairman of the Parking and Traffic Commission, the Village Managers Association and the Great American Lightshow Association - for which Jay persuaded many a friend and acquaintance to solicit donations for the annual 4th of July fireworks show.
