He is survived by: his former wife Patricia "Patsy" Kernan (O'Neill); his children, Kathy (Milton Dudley), Jake (Gay), Mike and Bridget; and his wife Kathleen "Kate" Schwaighart. He is also survived by seven grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
He was the inaugural recipient of the Volunteer of the Year Award and retired only when COVID ended his service at age 95.
