It is with great sadness that we announce the death of John Walker Hales Jr. of OFallon, Illinois, who passed away on August 14, 2025, at the age of 78, leaving to mourn family and friends. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
He was predeceased by: his parents, John Hales and Reba Hales (McKendree); his daughter Linda Janell Hales Tucker; and his sister-in-law Sheila Hales. He is survived by: his wife Karen Hales (Mills); his daughters, Tammy Carter of Clinton, KY, Regina Trevino (David), Tressa Furlow (Donnie) of Herrin, IL and Laura Marcum (Michael) of O'Fallon, IL; his brother Kenny Hales (Lori); and his brothers-in-law, Marshall Mills (Angie) of Bluford, IL, Randy Mills (Roxanne) of Ferdinand, IN and Marty Mills (Kelly) of Mt. Vernon, IL. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild.
In honor of John's life, donations can be made to a local NPR/PBS affiliate, APDA Missouri Chapter, or Hospice of Southern Illinois.
