With heavy hearts, we announce the death of James Robert Rister of Omaha, Illinois, who passed away on April 13, 2024 at the age of 90. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.

He was predeceased by : his parents, Alfred Rister and Flora Rister (Eubanks); his wife Fern Marie McEwen; his grandson Derek Downs; and his son-in-law Rick Downs.

He is survived by : his children, Marilyn (Louie Baldwin), Robert (Cathy Rister) and William (Carla Rister); his siblings, Alberta (Maurice T. Gossett) and John (Sharon Rister); his grandchildren, Brian (DeeDee Downs), Justin (Angie Rister), Michael (Cindy Rister), Ashley (Kyle Chumley) and Audrey Gries of Evansville, Indiana; his stepgrandchildren, Chris Baldwin, Timothy, Kendra Prest, Pamela, Jameral Penny, Ebany Jolley and Daryl Jolley; his great grandchildren, Lindsey, Ryan Owen, Colter Rister, Alivia Rister, Rhett Chumley, Walker Chumley, Will Chumley, Cora Gries and Vada Gries; his stepgreat-grandchildren, Riker Baldwin, Kara Baldwin, Cooper Prest, James Prest and Ellie Prest; his great great grandchildren, Janelle and Camilla Owen; his brother-in-law Eugene McEwen of Williamsburg, Virginia; and his nephew Dean Healy. He is also survived by several cousins, nieces and nephews.

Visitation was held on Wednesday, April 17th 2024 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Vickery Funeral Chapel (602 E Edwards St, Ridgway, IL 62979). A funeral service was held on Thursday, April 18th 2024 at 11:00 AM at the New Hope General Baptist Church (18870 7000E, Omaha, IL 62871).
