He was predeceased by: his parents, John L. "Briss" Bowers and Claudia Bowers (Bridwell); his brother Mark "Bub" Bowers; his brother-in-law Virgil "Buddy" Zachary; and his mother-in-law Evelyn Owsley.
He is survived by: his wife Phyllis Bowers (Owsley) of Orient, Illinois; his son Michael Bowers (Mickey); his grandsons, Gage Williams (Casey) of West Frankfort, Ethan and Drew Bowers of Orient; his great grandchildren, Reese Hood, Parker June Williams, Emryx and Raegan Hill; his siblings, John R. Bowers (Phyllis Sue) of McLeansboro and Andrea Tennyson (Melvin) of McLeansboro; and his siblings-in-law, Judy Parker Bowers of McLeansboro, Rick Owsley (Nancy), Jed Owsley of Orient and Janet Zachary of West Frankfort. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
