She was predeceased by : her husband Richard Lawler; her children, Norman Messer, Kathryn Stice and Susan Patterson; and her siblings, Kathryn Hausmann, Herman Hausmann and Dorothy Lupescu.

She is survived by : her significant other Paso Fino; her children, Gregory Messer (Lora), Mary Secord (Ross Feithen), Richard Lawler (Bob Nielsen), Michael Lawler, Peggy DeSalvo (late Randy DeSalvo), Maureen Gardner (Paul) and Deanna Rolence (John); and her grandchildren, Melissa, Andrew, Jonathon, Emily, Rosemary, Nicholas, John, Michael, Samantha (James), Sydney (Michael), Harrison (Christiana), Rebecca, Reneé (Bryan), Maggie (Raymond), Katie (Michael), Brandon, Tessa (Jeff), Aaron, Brittany, Paul and Kayleigh.

Visitation was held on Friday, May 24th 2024 from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM at the All Saints Lutheran Church (13350 South La Grange Road, Orland Park, IL 60462). A memorial service was held on Friday, May 24th 2024 at 10:00 AM at the same location.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to Tender Loving Care Animal Shelter, 13016 W. 151st St., Homer Glen, IL, in honor of Phyllis's enduring love for animals.
