He was predeceased by : his parents, Lewis Hengesbaugh and Eleanor Hengesbaugh (Dillon); and his siblings, Frank, Bernard, Theodore, Jean, Rita and Eleanor.

He is survived by : his wife Dorothy; his children, Christopher (Nancy), Steve, Doug, Anne Carr (John) and Jane Ryan (Mark); his grandchildren, Brian (Kelly), Jillian (Tim), Sean (Caitlin), Greer (Justin), Caitlyn (Marcus), Brendan (Emma), Brett, Claire and Drew; his great grandchildren, Jack, Sydney, Grant, June, Cara, Bennett, Franklin, Kellen and Ségolène; and his sister Carol Jacobs (Art).
