He was predeceased by: his parents, Ken Raethz and Helen Raethz (Bisbee); his sister Judy Ortmeier; and his brother-in-law John Young. He is survived by: his children, Jim Raethz (Jen), Michelle Shelley (Bryan), Christopher Raethz (Kristee) and Marisa Raethz (Nate); his grandchildren, Olivia, Brianna, Grayson, Austin, Logan, Layla and Mickayla; his former wife Kim Smuda (Jim); his siblings, Ron (Francine), Roger (Janet), Cindy (Tom), Thomas (Betty), Kristi and Mike (Pete); and his brother-in-law Dave Ortmeier. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
