He was predeceased by: his parents, Walter Bergeson and Edith Bergeson (Shaw); his brothers, Richard and Edward Bergeson; and his stepsons, Matthew and Aaron Rosenstiel.

He is survived by: his wife Brenda Bergeson; his sons, Darryl Bergeson, David Bergeson, Dale Bergeson (Erin) and Jason Hardcastle; his stepsons, Jeremy Rosenstiel, Philip Rosenstiel and Jessie Burns; his daughters, Judy Bergeson-Needs, Geraldine Bergeson Conrad and Kristina Bergeson; his stepdaughters, Heather Rosenstiel Brockman (Steven) and Christina Burns; and his sisters, Connie Kelchner of Fort Myers and Lona Berkeley of Dixon, Illinois. He is also survived by many grandchildren, great grandchildren, extended family members, and friends.
