He was predeceased by: his parents, Clyde Coats and Anna Coats (Gregory); and his siblings, Rita Smith, Shirley Vaughn and Larry Coats.
He is survived by: his wife Elaine Coats (Romzo); his children, Kristin Meyer (Carl), Poppi and Betsy Meyer; and his siblings, Boyd Coats of Hideaway, Texas and Gail Hamilton (George) of Peoria, Illinois. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 22nd 2026 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Prince of Peace Lutheran Church (1190 N Hicks Rd, Palatine, IL 60067). A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, September 22nd 2026 at 11:00 AM at the same location.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Niles Chamber of Commerce Dollars for Scholars or to Chicago Master Singers.
