He was predeceased by: his wife Clara Evelyn "Clare" Smith; his siblings, Eldene Dykstra (Cornelius) and William Smith (late Jane); and his parents, Andrew Smith and Janet Smith.

He is survived by: his children, Steven Smith (Eric Ringquist) and Jill Knibbe (David); his grandchildren, Laura Knibbe and Jaclyn Hollinger (David); and his great grandchildren, Noah and Ryan Hollinger.
