He was predeceased by: his parents, Winand Schmitz and Ludvina Schmitz (Nold); his wife Elma Irene McDonald; his children, Christine M. Schmitz and Stephen P. Schmitz; and his brothers, Raymond Schmitz and Lester Schmitz.
He is survived by: his children, Paulette Witsman (Bud) of Tiffin, OH, Thomas Schmitz (J. R. Blackburn) of Columbus, OH and Valerie Green (Steve) of Warrensburg, IL; his grandchildren, Jessica Ashley (Brian), Maria Woollard (Nathan), Melissa Smith (Dave), Alan Schmitz (Jen), Megan Cox (Josh), David Schmitz (Kari), Matt Schmitz (Jenny), Rebecca Wilkinson (Joe), Corey Stetzel (Trevor) and Joseph Green; and his siblings, Rosemary Huttes of Pana, IL, Eugene Schmitz of Tower Hill, IL and Leland Schmitz (Doris) of Rosamond, IL. He is also survived by 16 great grandchildren and one on the way; 1 great-great grandchild.
Memorials in Clarence's honor may be made to Sacred Heart Church, Oconee or Pana Community Hospital Foundation for Quad County Hospice and will be accepted by McCracken-Dean Funeral Home who is assisting the family.
