He was predeceased by: his parents, Joseph and Elisabeth. He is survived by: his wife Marlies; his children, Frank Gruendner (Beverly), Marion Lyday (Bill) and Monika Guercio (Glen); his grandchildren, Christopher (Sarah), Michael (Natsumi), Laura Gruendner Woods, Carl Lyday, Katie McDonough (Colin), Stefanie, Kristie and Angie Guercio; and his great grandchildren, Sophia, Henry, Lucy Gruendner, Finley, Oliver McDonough and Kaya Gruendner.
