He was predeceased by: his parents, Paul Smith and Florence Glenna Reese Smith; his siblings, Gearold Smith (Barb), Floyd'Bud'Smith, Bill Smith, Virginia Chaplin Blevins and Lois; and his brothers-in-law, John Webel and Robert Clarkson.

He is survived by: his children, Doug Smith of Pearl, IL and Rochelle Smith of Pearl, IL; his grandchildren, Kaci Alfaro (Jason) and Dalton Smith (Erica); his siblings, Gladys Clarkson, Doris Webel, Ronnie Smith (Pam) and Freddie Smith (Joetta); and his sister-in-law Sondra Smith. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
