She was predeceased by: her son Anthony Howard (Miguel); and her sister Linda Bridges. She is survived by: her parents, Doug Nelson and Betsy Nelson of San Antonio, TX.; her husband Doug Howard; her children, Melinda Riley (Ly), Chris Riley (Brandy), Tara Lopez (Oscar), Joseph Howard and Brian Sandy; and her sisters, Holly Nelson and Julia Lemmon. She is also survived by her 14 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Farm Aid, the ASPCA, St. Labre Indian School, or a charity of the donor's choice.
