He was predeceased by: his parents, Edward Schmidt and Elizabeth Schmidt (Conley); and his brother Thomas Schmidt. He is survived by: his wife Bonnie Kencke; his son John O'Connell of Peru; his granddaughter Scarlett Blue O'Connell; and his siblings, Greg Schmidt (Rhonda) of Peru and Barbara Sakes of LaSalle. He is also survived by five nieces and nephews.
