He was predeceased by: his parents, John Vanko and Louise Vanko (Rezen); his parents-in-law, Albert and Mildred Kmetz; his brother John G. Vanko; and his sister-in-law Karen Howe.
He is survived by: his wife Nancy "Sweetie" Kmetz of Anthony's Church; his children, Richard J. Vanko (Danielle) of Spring Valley and Laurie Montelo (Pat) of Schaumburg; his grandchildren, Madeline Diaz (Nathan), Hannah Vanko (Kieran Trevier), Andrew Vanko (Dana Russell), Elizabeth Vanko, Anthony Montelo (Ashley), Joey Montelo (Amanda) and Michael Montelo (Elise Weber); and his in-laws, Greg, Cherie Lovins (Kmetz) and David Howe. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
