Scott was born July 20, 1965 in Peru to Walter and Elizabeth "Betty" (Zdaniewicz) Filipiak. He was a graduate of LaSalle-Peru High School with the Class of 1983. He married Jennifer Keen at the Tonica United Methodist Church.

Scott was very crafty. He enjoyed building things and worked as a handyman after working for Stuart's Tree Service for 25 years. Scott enjoyed nature and the outdoors and especially loved fishing, riding his bike and walking his beloved dog, Payton. He was also an avid Chicago Bears and Chicago Cubs fan. Scott was considered to be a Pool Shark and everyone in the area knew him for being able to run the table. He also played in multiple pool leagues in the area.

Survivors include his wife, Jennifer (Keen) of Northglenn, CO; his children, Nick Filipiak of Peru, Hannah Filipiak and Ashlai Keen both of Northglenn, CO and T.J. Smith of Thornton, CO; one grandson, Jaxon Smith of Thornton, CO; two brothers; one sister and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
