He was predeceased by: his parents, Harley "Gene" Ellars Jr. and Mary Ellars (Lapeschka); and his sister Donna Ellars. He is survived by: his siblings, David Ellars (Michelle) of Tolono, Nancy Hancock (Steve) of Philo and Kris Thomas (Douglas Dillavou) of Tolono; his nephews, Michael Ellars (Jamie), DJ Ellars (Dawn), Chris Severns (Olivia), Anthony Severns (Lauren), Matthew Thomas (Lori) and Nick Pittman (Breanne Giasson); and his niece Deanna Pellum (Casey).

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be sent to CU Elks Lodge #2497, 903 N. Dunlap Ave. Savoy, Illinois for the Child Care Program, or for the Danville VA.
