He was predeceased by: his parents, Clifford Mitzel and Florance Mitzel (Ott); his former wife Patricia Piazza of September; his daughter Cindy; and his grandson Joseph Zephries.
He is survived by: his wife Elizabeth Binger (Beth); his daughter Laura Zephries (Steve); his grandson Tony Zephries; and his siblings, Marjorie Rogacki and Marvin (Christel). He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Visitation was held on Friday, November 14th 2025 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the DeFiore Funeral Home (10763 Dundee-Huntley Rd, Huntley, IL 60142). A celebration of life was held on Saturday, November 15th 2025 at 10:00 AM at the same location. A burial was held on Saturday, November 15th 2025 at the St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery (10307 Dundee-Huntley Rd, Huntley, IL 60142). Following retirement in 1984, he continued to stay active, working at Lowe's until the age of 79, retiring once more at the onset of the COVID-19 outbreak.
