He was predeceased by: his parents, Joseph Stechelman and Winifred Van Stechelman; his son Greg; his daughter-in-law Pam; and his siblings, Jack, Joy Johnson and Sylvia Taets.
He is survived by: his wife Lorna; his daughters, Holly Matznick (Andy) and Heather Lazzara (Jason); his grandchildren, Anna, Abe, Olivia and Nate; his stepgranddaughter Carrie Menke (George); and his stepgreat-grandchildren, Brooke, Camryn, Van Stechelman, Taets and Johnson.
Visitation was held on Wednesday, September 2nd 2026 from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Orion United Methodist Church (407 12th Ave, Orion, IL 61273). A memorial service was held on Wednesday, September 2nd 2026 at 11:00 AM at the same location.
Memorials may be made to the Habitat of Humanity where Jim volunteered and helped build a home for a displaced family in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina.
