He was predeceased by: his parents, Percy J. Smith and Nellie Smith (Schott); his wife Nellie Mae; his children, Janice, Frank and William; his sister Bessie; his brother-in-law Robert Busing; his brother Raymond Smith; and his mother-in-law Nola Ellinger (Green).
He is survived by: his children, Eldon Smith (Nancy) and Susan Flessner (Kevin) of Pontiac, IL; his daughter-in-law Amy Smith of Momence, IL.; his grandchildren, Angie Pickett (John), Elisa Smith (Bart), Jason Smith (Mary Katherine), Nina Meconis (Brett), Amanda Hickman (Dennis), Catherine and Karen Mehri; his great grandchildren, Liam, Keely, Brynn Pickett, Adeline, Harrison, Josephine Smith, Mason, Collins Meconis and Hallie Hickman; and his close friend Betty Riffey. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, October 9th 2026 at 11:00 AM at the McDowell United Methodist Church (18156 E 1400 N Rd, Pontiac, IL 61764).
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Fred's name to McDowell United Methodist Church, Livingston County Humane Society, or to Evenglow Tjardes Health Center.
