He was predeceased by: his parents, Elmer Beard and Ruby Beard (Miller); his wife Jo Ann Beard (Smith); and his son Douglas Beard, Jr.. He is survived by: his former spouses, Georgia Ludwick and Versia Hicks; his stepsister Tricia; his children, Adam Beard, Jeffrey Beard, Paul Beard, Pam Henggeler (Larry) and Bettina Vandemark (Brian); his stepdaughter Tricia Hicks; his sisters, Lola Scerba, Edna Kay Francis and Beth Fridley; and his grandchildren, Josh, Andy, Brock, Joshua Dean, Tyler, Matthew, Alexis and Scarlett. He is also survived by great grandchildren; and multiple nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in his honor to the family to establish a memorial at a later date.
