He was predeceased by: his parents, Harry Smeltzly and Harriet Smeltzly (Byers); and his brother-in-law Glenn Underwood. He is survived by: his wife Darlene Vanden Bossche of Mary's Catholic Church; his sons, Mike Smeltzly (Marla), Dan Smeltzly (Sara) and Gary Smeltzly (Chris); his sister Jane Underwood of Princeton, IA; his grandchildren, Keaton Smeltzly (Erin), Karson Smeltzly (Ashley), Kye Smeltzly, Rebecca Schriefer (Justin), Eric Norman (Brianne), Brooke Altensey (Trystan), Tyler Smeltzly (Jilian), Travis Smeltzly (Lauryn) and Trent Smeltzly (Brinley); and his great grandchildren, Harper Smeltzly, Cole Smeltzly, Lennon Smeltzly, Ella Schriefer, Sophia Norman, Charlotte Norman, Landon White and Declan White. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Visitation was held on Sunday, September 27th 2026 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at the Bode Funeral Home (202 N Main St, Port Byron, IL 61275).
Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's research Hospital or the Hillsdale Fire Department.
