He was predeceased by: his parents, Sigmund Thies and Clara Thies; his wife Lillian Valleroy; his son Bruce Thies; and his sisters, Ida Heineman, Selma Kueker, Wilma Neely and Ruth Koester.
He is survived by: his children, Phyllis Grohmann (Robert), Larry Thies (Lori) and Tim Thies St; his daughter-in-law Rosalyn Thies; his siblings, Mabel Schoenbeck and Art Thies (Gladys); and his grandchildren, Patty Salger (Nathan), Danny Moll (Tammy), Wendy Cathell (Robby), Todd Grohmann (Michelle), Tyson Grohmann (Lindy), Bethany Grandt (Patrick), Kaitlyn Koch (Josh) and Tyler Thies. He is also survived by his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
