He was predeceased by: his parents, William O'Brien and Loretta O'Brien (Clodi); his wife Lois R. Elliot; his grandchildren, Shawn and Angela Balthazor; and his siblings, Marie Berns (Tommy Wood), Francis O'Brien (Aldine), Gerald O'Brien, Phyllis Buza (Glen) and Donald O'Brien (Norma).

He is survived by: his children, Patricia (Walter Askew), Judy (Rick Balthazor), Susan O'Brien (Kelli Snodell) and Tom (Chris O'Brien); and his grandchildren, Kevin (Mallory), Kim (Kevin), Sarah (Andy), Anthony (Alison), Katie (Mark), Kelly (Josh), Dan (Missy) and Tim (Tori). He is also survived by nineteen great grandchildren.
