He was predeceased by : his parents, Ira Nelms and Nina Nelms (Arnett); his wife Barbara Reider; and his siblings, Lyle Nelms, Robert Nelms, Rod Nelms and Joyce Perrine.

He is survived by : his sister-in-law Pat Nelms. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
