He was predeceased by: his parents, Archie Smith and Mary Smith (Cahill); his wife Monica Skelley; his children, Michelle Welling, Kimberly Fehr, Lance and Mark Smith; his grandson Lance Smith, Jr.; and his siblings, Jerold and Joanne Smith.
He is survived by: his sons, Michael Mason (Mary Jane) and Rick Mason (Sue); his children-in-law, Holly Smith and John Welling; his grandchildren, Shawn Smith, Chase Smith, Dustin Smith, Cody Smith, Isaac Smith, Elizabeth Anderson and Zachary Fehr; and his sister-in-law Judy Smith. He is also survived by many great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to St. Pius X Church or Sisters of Charity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Dubuque, IA.
