He was predeceased by: his parents, Thomas E. Johnson and Helen Coe Johnson (Wemple); his brother Thomas L. W. Johnson; his siblings-in-law, Elinore K. Johnson, Steven Anderson and Mireille Soubeyran (Faure); and his niece Sarah Osborn.
He is survived by: his grandson John Francis; his wife Ada Johnson (Anderson); his daughters, Amy Johnson (Laurent Crawford) of Chicago and Deborah McEnaney (Thomas) of Danvers, Massachusetts; his grandsons, William Coe, Matthew Thomas and John Francis McEnaney; and his siblings-in-law, Lois Osborn (Don), Gail Huffington (Dennis), Carolyn Anderson (Steven) and Daniel Soubebeyran (Mireille). He is also survived by many nephews and nieces.
