With solemn hearts, we announce the passing of Gurtha Mae Edwards of Rockford, Illinois, whose presence will be deeply missed, having departed on January 10, 2025 at the age of 85. She was predeceased by: her husband Homer Edwards; her children, Henry Gulley-Edwards, Gurtha Lene Young, Sandy Williams and Marilyn Jones; and her siblings, R. W. "Jack" Purifoy, Shelton, Jerry Purifoy, Charlie Mae and Minnie P. Purifoy.
She is survived by: her children, Jerel Gulley, Christopher Gulley, Linda Gulley, Brenda Lyon, Marketa Tomlinson, Christine Gulley and Jeraldine Gulley; and her brother R. J. Purifoy. She is also survived by 22 grandchildren; a host of great and great great grandchildren.
