He was predeceased by: his parents, William Schmitz and Margaret Schmitz (Cunningham); his wife Mary Carey; his daughter Lisa Blankenship; his grandson Scott Blankenship; and his siblings, Kathleen Nicholson, Janice Pittz, Bill, Joe, Harold, Donald, Bernie and Ken Laverne Schmitz.
He is survived by: his children, Karen Hoover (Steve), Gregory Schmitz (Bonnie), Rickie Schmitz, Kim Soderberg (John), Stephen Schmitz (Sue) and Rodney Schmitz (Tracy Wallin); his grandchildren, Jonathan Hoover (Inese), Adam Hoover (Roxanne), Eric Hoover, Greg Schmitz, Jr., Chad Schmitz, Todd Schmitz (Stephanie), Kara Soderberg (Chris DePaepe), Marissa Holmstrom (Ben), Jessica Fehling (Rob), Jake Soderberg, Jordyn Schmitz, Zachary, Kitchrik and Keifer Schmitz (Alyssa); and his sisters-in-law, Helen, Marion and Barb Schmitz. He is also survived by 15 great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews.
