John touched countless lives with warmth and kindness, leaving behind cherished memories that will forever echo in hearts. He was predeceased by: his wife Linda S. Gabel (Neblock); his mother Elizabeth "Betty" Cropp (Cropp); his siblings, Barbara Horsfall, Tom and Mark Gabel; and his brother-in-law Kirk Mengelt.
He is survived by: his father Wayne F. Gabel; his children, Duke Gabel Jr. (Francis) and Stacy Carlson; his grandchildren, Colby Gabel, Adrianna Gabel, Syleena Gabel, Makenzie Gabel, Madison Carlson, Hunter Harris (Adriana) and Riley Carlson; his siblings, Mary Beth Mengelt, Bruce Gabel (Brenda), Gail Hutchins (Dennis), Loretta DeGroat and Julie Cuccinelli (Mike); and his great grandchildren, Aubree, Levi, Evelyn, Paislee and Koda.
Visitation will be held on Friday, June 6th 2025 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory - Riverside (3910 N Rockton Ave, Rockford, IL 61103). A funeral service will be held on Friday, June 6th 2025 from 1:00 PM to 1:45 PM at the same location. A burial will be held on Friday, June 6th 2025 from 2:00 PM to 2:30 PM at the Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery (8800 N Alpine Rd, Machesney Park, IL 61115).
