He was predeceased by: his parents, John F. O'Connor and Winnifred "Winnie" O'Connor; his siblings, Jack, Don, Robert O'Connor and Patricia O'Brien (Raymond O'Brien); his brother-in-law James Lawlor; his sister Nancy Heinecke; and his nephews, Douglas and Terry O'Connor.
He is survived by: his sister Elizabeth "Lib" Lawlor; his children, Susan O'Connor, Thomas O'Connor (Theresa), James O'Connor (Lori Gitchel), Louise Lima, Karen Gilbert, Margaret O'Connor and John O'Connor (Deb); his son-in-law Richard Heinecke; and his grandchildren, Sean O'Connor, Jack O'Connor, David O'Connor (Lisa), Melissa Theodros, Dustin O'Connor (Carmen), Ashley Kelleher, Jason Hoting (Sharla), Jennifer Hoting, Brent Hoting, Kurt Gilbert, Scot Gilbert, Meaghan Marsili (Nick), Robert Heinecke (Mary), Jaimie Feathers, Blake Feathers, Madeleine O'Connor, Daniel O'Connor and Colin O'Connor. He is also survived by great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, November 1st 2026 from 5:30 PM to 7:00 PM and on Monday, November 2nd 2026 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM. A rosary will be held on Sunday, November 1st 2026 at 7:00 PM at the Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory (1860 S Mulford Rd, Rockford, IL 61108). A funeral Mass will be held on Monday, November 2nd 2026 at 11:00 AM at the Holy Family Catholic Church (4401 Highcrest Rd, Rockford, IL 61107).
