With heavy hearts, we announce the death of William Edward Garrett of Rockford, Illinois, born in Alpine, Alabama, who passed away on June 9, 2023 at the age of 79. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.

He was predeceased by: his parent Ollie Garret; his wife Mary Defroe; his son William Garrett Jr.; and his sister Patricia G. Swain. He is survived by: his daughter Shawna Garrett; his grandchildren, Nakita Barbour and Deshaun Malone; his great grandchild Jamarvion Barbour; and his siblings, Elroy Garrett (Connie), Rev. Urvan Sr. Garrett (Paula), Rev. Orlando Garrett, MD, Garrett Jr., Louis Garrett, Melvin Garrett (Conzeuela), Diane Garrett, Ella J. Garrett and Emma G. Allen. He is also survived by nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.
