He was predeceased by: his parents, Ralph Gries and Marie Gries (Gensler). He is survived by: his children, Steven Gries of Sparland, Amy Gries and Christina Aldrich (Rob) of Chillicothe; his stepchildren, Lanita Jo Shoemaker (Steve) of Peoria, Ladona Stork (Brad) of Varna and Marty Piette (Kim) of Green Bay, Wisconsin.; and his grandchildren, Faith Thompson (Ryan), Jace Aldrich (Becca), Cassandra Rosalez (Josh), Kari Kaps (Matt), Preston Piette, Landon Piette and Eliana Piette.
Visitation was held on Wednesday, September 9th 2026 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Weber-Hurd Funeral Home (1107 N 4th St, Chillicothe, IL 61523). A funeral Mass was held on Thursday, September 10th 2026 at 10:00 AM at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church (412 N Center St, Lacon, IL 61540).
