He was predeceased by: his mother Mary E. Schmitt (Hamrick); his brother John Schmitt; and his brother-in-law Hank Malkus. He is survived by: his siblings, Barbara Malkus of St. Louis, MO, Donald Schmitt of Wood Dale, IL and Mary Lynn Hoffer (Dean) of Naperville, IL. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins.
Visitation was held on Thursday, October 23rd 2025 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the Staab Funeral Home - Springfield (1109 S 5th St, Springfield, IL 62703). A funeral service was held on Thursday, October 23rd 2025 at 12:00 PM at the same location.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Veterans of Foreign Wars or the American Legion.
