It is with deep sorrow that we announce the death of Cecelia Lorine Stapleton-Upshaw of Springfield, Illinois, who passed away on August 4, 2022, at the age of 83, leaving to mourn family and friends. She was predeceased by: her parents, Leatha Lorine Woods-Stapleton and Walter Hughes Stapleton; her husband William Arthur Upshaw, Jr. (Bill); and her siblings, Melvin Stapleton, Floyd Hughes Stapleton, Christine Marie Stapleton-Oliver, Betty Ruth Stapleton and Jones.

She is survived by: her children, Karen Stapleton-Crump (Derrick Ballard) of Springfield, Derrick Stapleton (Shelia Holmes), Jeffrey Stapleton (Stephanie Wade) of Springfield, IL, Ali Upshaw (Tonya) of Springfield, IL, Marcell Upshaw (Patricia), William Upshaw, III and Donald Upshaw (Loretta) of Richmond, VA; and her brother David Stapleton (Roberta) of Springfield, IL. She is also survived by Eleven grandchildren, Nine great-grandchildren, and host of nephews, nieces and cousins.

Upon her retirement, she joined the Foster Grandparent Program and served the children at the Early Learning Center faithfully until the pandemic.
