He was predeceased by: his parents, Joseph Arthur and Vera Coontz (Gaines); his son David Matthew Coontz; his sister Sue Ann Argo; and his nephew Joseph Argo.
He is survived by: his wife Deborah K. Howard; his sons, Polled Hereford Cattle and Arthur A. "Drew" Coontz of Springfield, IL; and his siblings-in-law, Wayne Howard (Jan), Sally Boesdorfer (Gary) and Barbara Johnson.
