He was predeceased by: his parents, William Bast and Mildred Bast; and his brother James Bast. He is survived by: his wife Jan Bast (Smith); his children, Jerod Bast of Fort Wayne, IN and Jennifer Durbin (Brian) of Mason City, IL; and his grandchildren, Jacob, Elisabeth, Quin, Kayla, Will, Maddy and Hannah.
A graveside service was held on Friday, November 7th 2025 at 2:00 PM at the Camp Butler National Cemetery (5063 Camp Butler Rd, Springfield, IL 62707).
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to Shriner's Children's Hospital or St. Jude Children's Hospital.
